We are pleased to present Voice Notes 001, a new label from Toby Tobias / Alphonse. Toby co-ran London Housing Trust and Voice Notes will feature some names familiar to LHT fans. However, the first release comes from a brand new name - Cherrie Bea -with a 4 track EP entitled 'Jafar's 21st'. Who is Jafar? We have no idea. And we don't know much about Cherrie either apart from the fact he lives in South-West London and is deep af. Maybe more will be revealed after this EP.The EP contains 3 original tracks taking you into Cherries cosmic world with a late night/early morning vibe. We get lush instrumentation and production, intricate guitar licks, voice synths, synth flourishes, and heavenly harmonies.A remix comes from one of our heroes, Nuron, the in-house producer at Likemind records -A legendary 90s imprint. He took on the lead track and made it all his own - a heads-down, building monster. ( Can we get a WOII? )
4 more Irish producers go incognito on a tech'ouse/breaks/bass/funky tip for volume 2 of our on-going COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) series.
Another preciosity from the amazing Exist Dance catalogue made readily available to your record collections in newly remastered format. On the A side, “We're Go” is a 3 stage piece of breaky prowess developing throughout a total of almost 13 minutes spiraling around a catchy cosmonautic vocal sample. B1 brings a quintessential Rave energy to the table with samples from live crowds echoing over high octane break rhythms, would be hard to stand still for the duration of this - highly effective on a dance floor. B2 takes a turn towards more introspective moods as it brings in psychedelic elements intertwined with “world music” samples. Very much characteristic of the distinguished Kandel/Chasteen Exist Dance sound. West coast early 90's rave at its best, can't go wrong. “Recorded in Heaven, in 1991, according to the label.”
Landing on Delsin with a highly developed strain of emotionally inquisitive electro, Reedale Rise presents a new four-track EP which builds on his growing reputation for beautifully rendered headphone escapism. Since first appearing in 2015, Liverpool-based Simon Keat has released on such respected outlets as Frustrated Funk and 20:20 Vision, while last year he released This Beautiful Life, an LP for Assemble Music. From the twinkling melodic mystery of 'Littoral Zone' to the playful synth flourishes of 'Globular', 'Driftwood's plush, expressive layered lines to 'Artemia's deep-diving introspection, this latest release confirms Keat as a leader in the field of contemporary electro, delivering tracks with pristine production but crucially placing feeling as the priority ahead of the considerable technical finesse.
Pedro Elías Corro is a producer and DJ from Venezuela, who grew up in the neighborhood of Catia, in Caracas during the 90's. Having grown up in the world of minitecas (mobile sound systems), Pedro Elias was able to develop his ear, as well as his DJ skills, from an early age. Particularly, by frequenting music gear and record shops in Catia such as 'Audio Jbl' and 'Djs Shop', which were the hotspots for all the miniteca dj's who were after the latest imports in dance music.By digging through the crates of these shops, Pedro Elias found inspiration in records from labels such as Italian Style Production, UR, Dance Street Technoland and ZYX. These influences, along with Afro-Venezuelan drumming and Caribbean Dance music, inspired Baba to create a new form of dance music which would be later known as Raptor House. As the technology for music-making became more affordable in mid 90s, the Miniteca scene gave birth to a string of new producers in Venezuela. Names such as El Mago, Dr Sampler, DJ Lemad, DJ Deep, DJ Yet (later known as DJ Yirvin) and DJ Baba. This new Venezuelan-flavored form of club music would become initially known as Street House, but as each producer developed their own style, new names for their sounds appeared; such as Town House, Hard Fusion and Raptor House, for which DJ Baba is the progenitor. The tracks on this EP are a compilation of music that Baba produced between 2001- 2005, at the peak of the 'Raptor House' scene. Included are collaborations with DJ Lemad ['Mario Vol 3' and 'Aget Love'] and a remix of 'Teque Teque Alright' by Nick Léon.
'23 repress of ‘YES.DJ’ by Simo Cell – his first solo record since 2018 – released on his own label TEMƎT. A celebration of dance music culture, each of these heavy-duty, titanium-plated bangers are a tribute to different styles of beats.
